If you're using spells or your non-spell attacks with a staff the order is reversed, magic/magic defense first, then any physical damage a spell might have second if your total magic isn't higher than the enemy's magic defense.įor weapons that have inherent magic damage like Eden's Warden or Scalding Razors, the magic value you see on the weapon is what you get, no % modifier unless a boon is applied on top of it. If not, it's reduced, and the magic damage from enchantment is applied against the enemy's magic defense (most non-undead have higher magic defense than physical to balance against spells being too much more powerful than weapon skills).
If your primary damage type is higher than the enemy's defense against it, any damage above that threshold is 1 for 1. Depending on the strength of the elemental boon (basic, 1 Star, Red Star only available from Bitterblack Isle rings), it increases your magic stat by 10, 20, or 30%, then it gets applied after your physical damage is calculated against the enemy's defense.
